Such essences, in principle, react to oxygen and would oxidize very quickly. Through the liposomes of lecithins, essential oils are however, aroma encapsulated and protected from oxidation. Thus, the oils are not immediately recognized by the body and as such, are therefore, also suitable for allergy sufferers.

Liposomes are specific spherical assemblies of surfactant molecules (eg, lecithin) in a liquid, which are commonly used in skin care products. As a carrier, they ensure that the actual ingredients can be transported into deeper layers of the skin.

The organic lecithin used in Belmar is obtained from organic soybeans and is an important natural surfactant. It allows mixing (emulsification) of fats and water.
