The Importance of a Clarifying Shampoo

The Importance of a Clarifying Shampoo

The health of one's hair is dependent on several internal and external factors such as our diet, climatic conditions, humidity and temperatures, as well as the hair care and styling products we use. All these factors may have an adverse effect on the health of our hair and put a strain on our scalp. This is where clarifying shampoos come in to detoxify the hair and scalp. When used once a week it will remove all the dirt and buildup from the hair and scalp.

Shampoos present on the market today can be classified into the following three macro categories:

  • Shampoos for daily use: These are products that are easily applied and rinsed out of the hair, as well as being suitable for daily use without impairing the protecting fatty layer of the hair strands. If the hair does not require special repairing properties, this is the perfect shampoo for you.
  • Clarifying shampoo: Clarifying shampoos are more effective at deep cleansing, removing all substances and residues that an ordinary daily shampoo cannot. Often strong cleansing effect degreases the hair excessively. The scalp is affected and a part of the natural sebum that acts as a natural protective barrier is stripped from the hair strands. Therefore, it is important to read through the ingredients list very carefully.
  • Healing shampoo: These shampoos are targeted at resolving certain problems such as dandruff, alopecia, etc.

The question is, however, can a shampoo suitable for daily use be converted into a clarifying shampoo?

Agronauti Cosmetics has found the answer and published this idea in their book titled #beautyhackings. We're implementing their idea by using the mild SYD Shampoo that fits into the "shampoo for daily use" category.

You will need the following:

  • SYD Shampoo
  • Morrocan Red Clay
  • Water
  • Organic Aloe Vera Gel (if required)
  • A bowl (wood or ceramic)
  • A spoon (wood or ceramic)

Prep time: 15 minutes

Why do we use red clay?

Most mild shampoos in our first category, so to speak, have a pH value of 5 - 6 and are therefore perfect for the structure of the hair. Clay, however, has a relatively higher pH value that can cause the hair to become dull (this effect will lessen after the clay is rinsed from the hair). Clay has the ability to free the hair from all substances that are harmful without impairing the protective sebum layer. In addition, a dry scalp is soothed, shine and luster improved, and any remaining impurities absorbed.

Why do we use Moroccan red clay?

Moroccan red clay is also known as "rhassoul" which is derived from the Arabic word "rhassale" which means cleansing/washing. The clay was used by the Egyptian Royal Family as a cleanser and conditioner for skin and hair. It counts to one of the rarest clay types in the world. Its ability to absorb impurities is impeccable. It is also able to mineralize skin and hair with many ingredients.

Application:

  1. Place the amount of shampoo that you would normally use in a bowl and add a spoonful of red clay.
  2. Add water and organic aloe vera gel if needed, which will aid in applying the mixture to your hair.
  3. Mix well and apply to the hair, massaging the scalp.
  4. Rinse the hair thoroughly, removing all shampoo residues.

Now you can say "hello" to the beginning of gorgeously healthy hair and scalp!
