The shea tree, Butyrospermum parkii, is a sacred African tree. Its fruit bears valuable oil known more commonly as shea butter. Traditionally, the fruits are harvested by women, therefore Karethic supports several cooperatives in Benin that craft the products by hand, in an effort to earn a fair income and secure schooling for their children.
