Description
Zinc oxide is a fine white powder that is only soluble in acidic or basic materials and not in water. It is commonly used in sunscreens as a physical sun filter. It is able to reflect and diffuse sun rays, especially UVA rays, which is why it is always combined with other substances that reflect more UVB rays.
Zinc oxide is used for inflammation and irritation, skin redness and skin problems. Thanks to its clarifying and astringent properties, it can also be used in cosmetics for pimples or bedsores.

I make almost all of my cosmetics at home. Last year I decidet to DIY my favourite clean brand of sunscreen, since it became too expensive. I make a simple balm and add this powder, according to propoprtions on the back of the empty tub I've kept after finishing my Badger sunscreen. The DIY version works perfect. I only use sunscreen on holidays, when I know I'll be outside for a prolonged amount of time and it works great for me. I will be repurchasing before next summer holiday.
