5 Tips for Glowing Skin
Does your skin feel really clogged during the winter months? Maintain healthy-looking and glowing skin with our simple tips and tricks!
SMOOTH AND RADIANT
Dry skin can lead to dullness - the last thing you want during winter. Exfoliating regularly with a face scrub removes dead skin cells, impurities and debris whilst revealing a healthy-looking and glowing complexion. Just be careful not to damage or excessively irritate the skin by using a highly abrasive scrub.
CREATE A BARRIER
You can create a protective barrier for the skin by combining your day cream with a skin-nourishing facial oil. This not only provides the skin with additional nutrients but also creates a barrier that protects the skin against inhospitable conditions.
Apply a nourishing oil either before moisturising, in order to intensively care for your skin, or after a day cream to create a protective barrier on the skin - this is particularly useful in harsh weather conditions to lock in moisture. Even the driest air cannot remove the moisture that is essential for the skin. Incidentally, this is also a great trick whilst skiing.
EAT ORANGE VEGETABLES
Orange vegetables are rich in carotenoids - the substance that gives them their vibrant hue. It might sound a little strange, but scientists found that people who eat a diet high in carotenoids had a subtle golden sheen on their skin thanks to the "colour of carotenoids". Be sure to follow a diet high in carrots, pumpkin and sweet potatoes on a regular basis to ensure a healthy glow - even during winter.
An increased intake of vitamin C-rich fruits and vegetables also promotes collagen production, makes your complexion look plump and protects you from the winter cold.
MOISTURE
Almost all skin types are drier during winter, as the skin loses moisture more quickly due to the lower humidity. Strong, cold winds and overheated rooms add to worsening the occurrence of dry, flaky skin and dull hair.
It is, therefore, a good idea to humidify the air in the bedroom with a humidifier (or by placing a heat-resistant water cup near your radiator). The increased humidity in the bedroom prevents your skin from drying out during the night.
OMEGAS - INSIDE AND OUT!
Omega-3 fatty acids are one of the best nutrients for keeping skin healthy, especially during winter. They help to repair cell membranes and reduce inflammation. Make sure you get enough omega essential fatty acids through your diet, especially during winter. This can be achieved in the form of 2-3 servings of high-fat fish or hemp seeds per week. Omega-3 dietary supplements are also an option.
Fun fact: omega fatty acids also have an external effect. When using a skincare product rich in omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids, you support the natural functions of the skin in two ways, from within and externally - for a radiant complexion even in the harshest winter conditions.
