Sustainable Development - Our Stance

The European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW) takes place annually from the 30th of May until the 5th of June. Sustainable development plays an extremely important role at Ecco Verde. We pursue a holistic sustainability concept that is based on three pillars.

The 1992 UN Conference in Rio de Janeiro defined sustainability as being " “development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

Keeping this goal in mind, entrepreneurship can help by placing the focus on eco-efficiency. It is intended to unify the use of low environmental impact with ecological and economical efficiency. Managerial decisions should be based on a business plan as well as taking responsibility the effects resulting from the decisions made. Therefore, the underlying goal is to achieve both environmental and social changes. Sustainable entrepreneurship pursues the concept that is based on economic, social and environmental pillars.

At Ecco Verde we aim to promote sustainable development within our company based on these three pillars:

Economic Measures

  • It is imperative to form long-term cooperation with our business partners to improve efficiency and improve on resources.

  • It is of great importance to offer only high-quality products composed of the best ingredients.

  • Economic transparency is crucial especially when it comes to fair pricing.

Social Measures

The social component plays a significant role when it comes to our employees. Employees are treated fairly and are offered the following benefits:

  • Free lunch: Our employees are provided with a free lunch on a daily basis. This also includes free beverages such as coffee, tea and juices as well as fresh fruit.

  • Payment: We pay above the collective agreement.

  • Working conditions: We strive to offer a pleasant working environment. This includes a relaxed atmosphere, ergonomic office furniture & sufficient sunlight. The software in our warehouse allows for shorter distances to be used by our warehouse employees.

  • We put emphasis on offering our employees the opportunity to come to us with their requests and work-related problems. All our employees have the flexibility of opting between full-time and part-time options.

  • Additionally, parents receive a subsidy for nursery school and child care allowance.

Environmental Measures

  • It is vital for us to save energy where possible. All the computers and lights are switched off outside of working hours. Our warehouse is insulated which results in less energy being used for heating. Opal glass windows were replaced by clear glass windows in our offices. New cooling units, as well as other hardware items, are acquired based on their energy efficiency.

  • Environmental protection is our top priority and starts when packages are dispatched. The filler material used in our packaging is largely made from compostable material.

  • Renewable energy is used with the help of photovoltaic systems.

  • Many of our employees take advantage of the public transport system as our office is located in the city centre. Some also come to work on foot and several opt to cycle to work. We also try to make the transport routes as CO2-neutral as possible.
